Color Comparison

I love the color comparison of Miss Moss, my two loves, food and fashion united, she nails it all the time!

Ravioli and Crisp

On Saturdays, me and Marlon usually go to the Organic Market /Farmer's Market at the Karl August Platz in Charlottenburg here in Berlin. Last Saturday I wanted to get something that I'd never tried before, rhubarb. I don't know why, but my mother, who is an amazing cook, never used this veggie in the kitchen. So I was really looking forward to trying something new.

So off we went! It turned out that rhubarb is not too expensive this time of year, so bought lots of it. While passing by an Italian food stand the woman of the stand asked us if we were interested in free fresh pasta (note: we are always a bit late, the market closes at 2 pm, and we are usually there 15 min. before, so the woman was leaving).... duh... I took one bag of pasta (of course I wanted, to take more.. but modesty is the key when you get something for free....I guess..), not knowing what was inside the Ravioli, quite exciting!

So our main course was some delicious ricotta-spinach Ravioli with garlic tomato sauce, topped off with Parmesan an olive oil, it was crazy "lecker'!

For dessert I made Forest Fruit Rhubarb Crisp with yogurt. I got the recipe from Joy of Baking and it was really really good, I will definitely make this again. Only next time I will try to use less sugar, as it was a tiny bit too sweet for my taste. The rhubarb was easy to cut and that made it easy to work with. It's texture really suits the fruit. I'm a happy woman, now I know Mr. Rhubarb.

It was a great indulging weekend, too bad my pants is getting tighter, I really need to get my exercise going.. but that is another story ;)

Visit

The great thing about living abroad (and not too far away from home) is that friends and family come to visit you!

Some weeks before, two of my friends came here for the weekend, we had so much fun: sightseeing and having pancakes with tea.

Last weekend my mom and dad were here, I really enjoyed the time we spend together. The weather was not too good, so besides visiting the Christmas Markets and other Berlin highlights, we stayed in to play games (Mario Kart on our Wii, yeahhh).

BKFST

I recently told you about my love for breakfast, now I just found out about a Tumblr called BKFST.
No words.. I'm totally in awe..

Pflaumenkuchen

Just a little post about the pflaumenkuchen I made this weekend, it's a German pie with prunes.

The difference between 'regular' pies and pflaumenkuchen is the yeast that is added to the dough, I think it gives the pie more bite and a bit of a bread-like feeling.

Have a lovely Tuesday!

Enjoy the weekend!

Saturday has arrived, I'm so happy! It has been a stressful time at the office.

Lately, I'm interested in a different style of eating, more natural, fresh, and organic. I got infected by Sarah from the blog My New Roots, love her recipes and beautiful photos.

I think I will try it for a week, starting today, to see how it will affect me. Another inspiration is the book 'You are what you eat' by Gillian McKeith, this book contains recipes to eat healthy for a week.

So, I'm off to the (organic) supermarket to buy brown rice, quinoa and other types of food I've never had... So excited!

Doesn't that socca (chick-pea pancake) look yummy? You can find the recipe here

On Sunday we have an outdoor music festival here in The Hague, called 'Parkpop', looking forward to relaxing in the grass (if it stops raining, that is..).

My lovely readers: What are your plans for the weekend? Have fun! X

My Week

A small impression of my week. Marlon and me enjoyed a cold but romantic weekend in Berlin. I went out to dinner with my mom and had some great Vietnamese food at Little V.

We also visited my aunt who is an amazing cook. She prepared a Turkish dish from one of the finest cookbooks of this moment Turquoise.

Weekend Bliss

I really enjoy giong out for breakfast, lunch and brunch. It's not as expensive as going out for dinner and it's a real treat.

A whileago, on   a Saturday, we went to a new lunchroom in The Hague called "Bakkerswinkel" (bakeryshop), I knew it already, as I visited the one Utrecht a couple of times before.

I had a freshly baked scone with a cappuccino and Marlon had a slice of home made apple pie with orange juice.

The atmosphere was great and the interior light and clean.

Afterwards, we went to the beach to enjoy the sea and sun.

Thai Cooking

Just got back from the most amazing Thai cooking workshop. It was a present from Marlon and me for my dad’s sixtieth birthday. He never cooks, because my mom is the best cook in the world. He actually never had the chance to develop his cooking skills, so we thought, let’s give him a chance J!

It took place in a tiny Thai food shop. The workshop was quite personal as it was just the four of us and the cook arranged a special Thai birthday ceremony with orchids and jasmine floating in water. While I poured the water over my dad’s hands I said my whishes for him out loud. There was also a banana flower, which stands for love and sacrifice from parents for their children. If the flower grows and comes off, the banana tree dies. All very impressive.

We prepared several dishes: a creamy curry-like fish package in banana leafs, amazing fresh spring rolls, yummy noodles, a fresh-spicy papaya salad and a light and delicious cucumber soup.

After five (!) hours of cooking and eating, we learned more about food than we could ever imagine and were full from all the amazing dishes. We said goodbye to the two amazing ladies that were our teachers for that day, while carrying home kilos of the food we prepared. We went home, smiling, satisfied and tired.

And my dad? He turned out to be the best student from the four of us! The cook even wanted to hire my dad to help during the Asian fair in the summer!
Because of his patients and precise character, he prepared the most beautiful looking spring rolls and banana leaf trays. Or maybe he just has a hidden talent we never knew about?

Sandwich

Couple of days ago, I tried something that I hadnt made for a some years, a club sandwich! I used grilled chicken, bacon, letucce, tomatoes, mustard-mayo and Dutch cheese.  It turned out great, at the end I added some pickles as I only missed the sourness in this sandwich. I'll make this more often, its soo easy to make and... Marlon likes it allot!
